We were delighted to participate in UCD’s sustainability education initiatives yesterday as part of their Green Week!
Thorntons Recycling are the primary waste management partners with UCD, and this event provided the opportunity to discuss the importance of recycling as well as educate students on the good work that we perform for the college.
Students spoke to us about how to recycle effectively. We educated them on the correct methods of waste sorting, explaining the appropriate bin to use for each type of waste.
We discussed the positive impacts of recycling and composting such as; helping local farmlands recover, lowered carbon emissions and reduced contamination.
Students were also offered our merchandise such as small compost bins and tote bags, pens and keep-cups much to their delight!
The primary goal of the event for us was to raise awareness and educate young people about the importance of recycling, as well as demonstrate the ease with which each of us can make a positive and lasting impact on the environment. We shared our videos of what happens to the collected materials on the large screens in the college ‘Village’.
