Commercial Waste Regulations

Enhanced Commercial Waste Regulations has come into effect to increase sustainability in the commercial sector.

The Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, has signed new legislation S.I.104/2023 The Waste Management (Collection Permit) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2023 to introduce incentivised charging for waste collection in the commercial sector.

At Thorntons Recycling, we strive to stay at the forefront of environmental and sustainability initiatives.

This new legislation requires commercial businesses to have a 3-Bin waste management solution.
We note that your account does not currently include a Food/Compost bin service. You can book one from us now!

What the enhanced regulations will mean for your business

  • Thorntons Recycling are required to provide a residual, mixed dry recyclable and bio waste (Compost) bin to all their commercial customers.
  • Waste collected must be weighed, with details on the weights of the individual bins communicated to customers.
  • Collection of recyclable waste and bio-waste must occur at least fortnightly.

Please note that compliance with this requirement is not only important for our organisation's sustainability goals but also mandated by law.
