Maynooth Tidy Towns invited us to a public meeting they organised to address the correct segregation of household waste.

The event, at The Glen Royal Hotel, was well attended by the local community and also contained presentations on home composting and planting flowers to help pollinators.

Thorntons Recycling Environment manager David Duff‘s key note speech focused on the correct items to place in the recycling bin, compost bin along with an interesting explanation of what happens to the the General Waste bin contents.

David explained that the mechanical sorting process extracts materials from the General Waste to use as a fuel (SRF) for at cement kilns.
